The word detox might inspire images of someone

starving on just lemon water and cayenne, or maybe you think of that friend that did a juice cleanse and had a migraine for three days...

Detox doesn’t have to be that extreme!

Sometimes those can actually end up doing more harm than good.

It can simply mean that you focus your efforts on changing some of your routines to help create a more balanced mind and body.

Due to environmental exposure, our bodies can become overwhelmed by toxins that enter into your body via water, air, food, pharmaceuticals, or other drugs.

Cleansing the body does not have to be as extreme or restrictive as some diets you’ve maybe heard of, or even tried yourself.

In fact, simple changes, such as considering changes to the following are great ways to start the detoxification process:

Water
Start each day with a glass of spring or filtered water and the juice of one lemon to help flush toxins and alkalize the b...

Indoor air pollution ranks among the top environmental dangers, and the majority of that pollution comes from the cleaners that we use on a regular basis. Often we don’t even think to relate symptoms we have to the product we use! Yet, some of the immediate effects might be headaches, nausea, irritation to the nose or eyes, and dizziness.

It’s kind of hard to believe that one of the top pollutants is caused by something that could be eliminated entirely. The problem is, then how would we keep our homes clean?

The good news: there are options.

Chemical-laden cleaning products aren’t the only means for keeping your home nice and clean. Homemade, non-toxic cleaning products are easy to use, fun to make, and are definitely better for us and the environment.

Here are natural products you can start replacing those chemical products with now:

Baking Soda
Baking soda is great for deodorizing, shining, and cutting through grease and grime.

Castile Soap
Castile soap is made from plant oils and is us...

There are three key factors that distinguish mammals from all other species. According to the Oxford dictionary a mammal is "a warm-blooded vertebrate animal of a class that is distinguished by the possession of hair or fur, the secretion of milk by females for the nourishment of the young, and (typically) the birth of live young."(1) Humans are animals. Women secrete milk to nourish their offspring and this has happened since the start of the human civilization. One could argue that this lactation, our ancestors only form of food as infants, is the very foundation for all human life to flourish and is thus the reason why we are alive today.

In the last century we have seen incredible technological advances that have revolutionized our world for the better....and in some ways, for the worse. the supposition that baby formula is superior to a mother's breast milk is one of the greatest catastrophes of our time. This belief in and of itself that has been pushed by large food manufactures(...

America has a prevalent issue of health inequalities through lack of a universal healthcare system and it is literally killing more people in our nation annually than all homicides combined. Amongst those most highly effected by this catastrophe are the people indigenous to this land. Although the Declaration declares, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal”(1) it is obvious that all men are not created equal. This “land of the free” treats it’s citizens disproportionately and this has a tremendous consequence for the health of many people. The World Health Organization focuses on the global effect of health inequities and defines them as, “avoidable inequalities in health between groups of people.” (2) Today, there are many reasons why our citizens and specifically, Native Americans, are dying from a lack of healthcare, finances, and medical support. In this blog post we will discuss how health inequities impact all Americans, how health inequities sp...
