Have you read any good books recently?

This book, "The Little Book of Hygge" by Meik Weiking was a PURE delight and joy to read.

I highly recommend it!

It is written by the CEO of the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Meik Wiking walks us through the philosophy of Hygge, the Danish secrets to happy living.

Denmark is repeatedly at the top of the list for the world's happiest countries, so I was curious, what's the secret?!

What makes the Danes so happy?

Did you know that Social Support is the #1 factor that determines if people are happy?

Having someone you can turn to in a time of need is critically important for maintaining happiness.

Who is that one person in your life?

Perhaps send them some love today, just a quick note to say you care?

It was so good, I wanted to share some of the key take aways with you.

I took some notes while reading because I wanted to practice the Hygge Manifesto. So I figured I'd share with you too!

What's scarier than Halloween ghosts and goblins? 👻

According to the American Heart Association (AHA), the MAX amount of added sugars you should eat in one day are 9 tsps for men, 6 teaspoons for women, and LESS  6 tsps a day for anyone under the ago of 18.

TRIVIA 🎉

On Halloween, guess how much sugar the average child consumes??

About THREE CUPS of sugar, which is about 144 teaspoons of sugar!!

THAT IS 24 TIMES MORE THAN RECOMMENDED BY THE AHA 🚨

Not only will this knock the immune system out (watch how many people get sick these next few weeks...), but it also leads to a whole host of health issues. #KeepingItReal

Now of course Halloween is a holiday, but as a nutritionist I wanted to take this special time as an opportunity for a public service announcement. 😘

I love and care about you and want you to have OPTIMUM health.

Part of optimum health is cutting back on sugar.

But it tastes SO good!

I know, trust me, I have been there too.

Are you aware that t...

The word detox might inspire images of someone

starving on just lemon water and cayenne, or maybe you think of that friend that did a juice cleanse and had a migraine for three days...

Detox doesn’t have to be that extreme!

Sometimes those can actually end up doing more harm than good.

It can simply mean that you focus your efforts on changing some of your routines to help create a more balanced mind and body.

Due to environmental exposure, our bodies can become overwhelmed by toxins that enter into your body via water, air, food, pharmaceuticals, or other drugs.

Cleansing the body does not have to be as extreme or restrictive as some diets you’ve maybe heard of, or even tried yourself.

In fact, simple changes, such as considering changes to the following are great ways to start the detoxification process:

Water
Start each day with a glass of spring or filtered water and the juice of one lemon to help flush toxins and alkalize the b...

Indoor air pollution ranks among the top environmental dangers, and the majority of that pollution comes from the cleaners that we use on a regular basis. Often we don’t even think to relate symptoms we have to the product we use! Yet, some of the immediate effects might be headaches, nausea, irritation to the nose or eyes, and dizziness.

It’s kind of hard to believe that one of the top pollutants is caused by something that could be eliminated entirely. The problem is, then how would we keep our homes clean?

The good news: there are options.

Chemical-laden cleaning products aren’t the only means for keeping your home nice and clean. Homemade, non-toxic cleaning products are easy to use, fun to make, and are definitely better for us and the environment.

Here are natural products you can start replacing those chemical products with now:

Baking Soda
Baking soda is great for deodorizing, shining, and cutting through grease and grime.

Castile Soap

When many of us think of gratitude, we associate it the act of simply saying “thank you” to someone for an act of kindness. However, gratitude is more than just a reaction or the feeling associated with feeling thankful for something.Instead, it is a positive emotion, and a deeper appreciation of someone or something. This deeper relationship with gratitude, of course, has a longer lasting effect.

Gratitude is a state of mind that we create when we affirm good in our lives that comes from outside of ourselves or from relishing in small pleasures. We all have those precious blessings in our lives that we are grateful for, but gratitude does not necessarily have to come from our own circumstances.

Practicing gratitude means developing an awareness that allows you to be grateful for things like good health, a delicious meal, a child’s smile, the air that you breathe. It is a deeper appreciation of life in all its moments. This includes negative experiences as well because by practicing gra...

It cannot be denied that everyday life has some accompanying stresses. Often we carry those stresses to bed and carry them along through the next day as we collect new stresses. With this in mind, it is essential that we take some time for ourselves to sit quietly with our thoughts, to pamper ourselves, or just to relax once in awhile.

For many of us, this sounds like a great idea, but it’s hard to put into action. We either can’t seem to find the time to take for ourselves, or a day at the spa sounds great but is not within our financial reach. Regardless, it is important to find the time because prolonged stress can lead to:

-headaches
-fatigue
-insomnia
-restlessness
-inflammation
-depression
-weakened immunity
-irritability

There are many ways to reduce your stress, including eating healthy, exercising, practicing meditation, and finding quiet moments to yourself. One great way is to carve out the time by creating a spa day for yourself at home. And guess what, it doesn’t cost much!

Did you know that 60% of the body is made of water?

Did you know that water takes the backseat to carbonated soda as the most popular beverage in the United States? 🥤

It’s a scary statistic not only because the dangers of drinking sugary drinks on the body, but also because the body requires ample amounts of water to help balance all of the body’s fluids, digest food, transport nutrients from food to the rest of the body, and to regulate the body’s temperature.

So basically, water is your body’s superpower. 💎

Are you ready for the holidays?

If you are curious about how to enjoy all the joy and activity of the season...but still want to keep your health strong- you're in the right place. We hosted a live workshop on this very topic and you can watch the replay video below. Here we have shared some of our favorite tips.

The first tool that helps is to envision what a happy and healthy holiday season looks like for you. Try this activity:

Envision Your Ideal Holiday Season:

Spend some time in your thoughts and begin to see yourself living out the absolutely ideal holiday season. Close your eyes….breathe….think about (or journal about) the following:
Who would you spend time with?

What foods would you eat?

What presents would you purchase?

What gifts would you receive?

Where would you be located?

How would you define this holiday season as successful?

Key Question To Ask Yourself This Season:

“How does this decision serve me? Will it get me closer to my ideal holiday season? Is there a better choice I...

Do you know that the skin is the largest organ in the body?

The skin's job is to protect the body from trauma and outside dangers, regulate temperature, and sense pleasure & pain.

Like with any other organ, it is good practice to pay attention and nurture its health. One way to do this is to start a daily routine of dry brushing your skin in the morning before taking a bath or shower.

Dry brushing, appropriately enough, is exactly what it sounds like - the brushing of the skin with a dry brush. The process removes dry, dead skin cells, leaving the skin fresh and new.

You may be thinking that adding another step to your already busy routine is too much, but besides the baby-soft skin, the benefits of dry brushing go beyond just your skin - and it only takes 60 seconds!

Here are some of the incredible benefits:

Lymphatic System
The lymphatic system is comprised of a series of nodes throughout the body that are connected to one another by lymph vessels. The nodes contain immu...

Have you ever desired more connection to the women in your community?

Have you wanted a safe space to share your story, not to get advice or judgement, but just to be listened to?

Have you ever wished for friends who would accept and appreciate you- just as you are?

If so, you are not alone.

I have found this sacred community though a tradition known as women's circles.

I have had the honor of hosting and attending women's circles and they are so sweet and powerful. If you have not heard of a women's circle before, essentially it is a safe and sacred space for women to come together to share life together.

Sounds broad and vague? It is a little.

The magic truly happens from establishing a safe circle with a few guiding principles and then letting each women offer her own gifts and words to the collective. Women's circles have been around for thousands of years and they can come in many beautiful shapes and sizes.

If you are feeling called to rise as a leader in your community, and to shar...
